Intel’s “Coffee Lake” Core i7 & i5 CPUs will most likely require new motherboards

And it appears that Intel has dropped the ball. A couple of days ago, we informed you about the full specs of the new upcoming Intel Coffee Lake i7 & i5 CPUs. These new processors will be using the LGA1151 socket, however it appears that they won’t be compatible with the LGA1151 motherboards that are currently available.

This information comes from an AIB partner who confirmed that the Coffee Lake CPUs will require new motherboards. It seems that Intel will force PC users to also upgrade their motherboards for these brand new CPUs. And that’s a shame because the Coffee Lake CPUs seem really close – architecture wise – to the Skylake CPUs. Not only that, but we are pretty sure that a lot of Skylake owners won’t jump to these new CPUs in case they require a new motherboard.

Intel has not officially announced yet whether the Coffee Lake CPUs will require new motherboards, however the writing is on the wall. We’ll be sure to keep you posted, so stay tuned for more!
