John Romero took to twitter on Friday to announce the release of his first Doom level in 21 years. The response? Overwhelmingly positive.
The first entry in the Doom franchise in 12 years hits later this year on PC, called merely Doom but originally known as Doom 4. Doom is still being developed by id software but John Romero hasn’t been at the company since 1996, he resigned there and co-founded Ion Storm following a contentious production of id’s Quake.
It’s been 21 years since I made a DOOM level. Here’s my version of E1M8 using DOOM1.WAD. https://t.co/ueKM7gBbXd pic.twitter.com/NlmA9aIALN

Thanks so much for the feedback, everyone! It’s the first time I’ve heard direct feedback for my levels. Originals released before Internet!

Grab the WAD and see the new level for yourself.
