Good news: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is now available on Steam and you can expect our Performance Analysis in the next couple of days. Bad news: the game suffers from a bug and requires players to stay online in order to progress.
Now we don’t know whether this ‘always-online’ thing was intentional so we’ll give Platinum Games the benefit of doubt. However, it has been confirmed that the game won’t start in offline mode. Not only that but the game will stop working if your Internet connection goes down.
According to NeoGAF’ers, this seems to be more like a bug than an intentional always-online DRM.
Here is hoping that Platinum Games will release a patch to address this issue in due time. Oh, and in case you are wondering then no; Platinum has not addressed yet the resolution issue that annoyed a lot of gamers.
Stay tuned for more!
[UPDATE]
Konami has confirmed that this always-online issue is a bug and not an additional DRM. The company is currently working on a fix, though there is no ETA yet. We’ll be sure to keep you posted though.
[UPDATE 2]
Well that was quick. Konami has released a patch that addresses the always-online bug!
