A few days ago, we informed you about Avowed and Dragon Age: The Veilguard supporting 60fps only on PC. And it appears that yet another current-gen only game will have this restriction on consoles. As Konami has confirmed, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will not have a 60fps mode on consoles. Therefore, the only platform that will be able to offer such an experience will be the PC.
As Konami stated, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will have two modes on consoles. The first one will be 4K/30fps, and the second will be 1080p/higher fps. We don’t know yet whether the team will lock the framerate at something like 40fps, or whether it will leave it unlocked. What we do know, though, is that it will not be able to come close to 60fps.
Now this shouldn’t come as a surprise. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be powered by Unreal Engine 5. My guess is that the devs will take advantage of both Lumen and Nanite. And, as we’ve seen, most – if not all – UE5-powered games struggle to run with 60fps on consoles.
As I’ve reported a few days ago, Avowed will also be locked at 30fps on Xbox Series X and S. And yes, Avowed is also using UE5.
Generally speaking, you should expect most current-gen games to not have a 60fps mode on consoles. Or at least for the base systems. That’s most likely why devs offer an unlocked framerate. In theory, PS5 Pro should be able to come close to 50-60fps, though I doubt we’ll see a locked 60fps experience even on it.
What this ultimately means is that the PC will be the only platform able to push 60fps and higher. This will be possible in the most demanding games with DLSS 3 or FSR 3.0. Especially if games start using multiple Ray Tracing effects.
Stay tuned for more!
