Team Blur Games has released some high-polygon items and objects that can be used in most Quake 2 source ports, including Quake 2 RTX. These new 3D models aim to further improve the visuals of Quake 2, and they are a must-have for everyone.
As of right now, Team Blur Games has updated the 3D models for Armor Shard and StimPack. There are also some WIP models for Barrels and Key Pass.
Moreover, some modders are working on new weapon models. Now I don’t know whether these models will be better than those that NVIDIA used in Quake 2 RTX. As such, I’d prefer to see more detailed models for all of the game’s environmental objects.
From the looks of it, this project is in a really early stage. I seriously hope that the team will step up its game and release more highly detailed models in the next couple of months. I know that such a thing requires a lot of time and effort, however there is a lot of potential here.
Speaking of new 3D models for weapons, there is another project that aims to improve all of them. As we reported back in 2018, modder ‘Turic’ is working on a Quake 2 Weapons Remodel project.
Those interested can download the first two custom high-polygon 3D models from here.
Have fun and kudos to Daniel for bringing this to our attention!

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
