Warner Bros has made Mortal Kombat 1 free to play this weekend on PC and consoles. From today until March 10th, PC gamers can download the game and play it.
This free-to-play trial will allow you to play the first two chapters of its single-player campaign. It will also give you access to all online and local multiplayer modes. Do note though that Shang Tsung, Havik, and characters included in the Kombat Pack are not available to play for free in the trial version of Mortal Kombat 1.
Now the good news here is that MK1 finally supports cross-play between PC and consoles. And yes, this F2P trial will support this feature. As such, you will be able to play with your console friends.
As always, if you purchase Mortal Kombat 1 Standard Edition or Mortal Kombat 1 Premium Edition after the F2P trial ends, all progress will transfer over to the full game, including Story mode, Invasions, and all unlocks.
To be honest, these latest Mortal Kombat games never clicked on me. Fun fact. I was a huge Mortal Kombat fan back in the 90s. The first three classic 2D MK games have a really special place in my heart. These days, though, I prefer Tekken and Street Fighter over Mortal Kombat. Despite its issues (and the huge amount of cheaters), Tekken 8 remains the best fighting game. At least for me.
Anyway, you can go ahead and download MK1 from Steam right now. During the weekend, Warner Bros is also offering a 40% discount.
Have fun!
