And we finally went full circle. Mortal Kombat started as a fighting game that would be focused on Jean-Claude Van Damme. However, that never came to fruition and now, after over 30 years, Jean-Claude Van Damme finally makes his debut in it.
Jean-Claude Van Damme will be a skin for Johnny Cage. His moves and fatalities will be exactly the same, so don’t expect any new moves. On the other hand, his costume is based on the original Mortal Kombat game, something that will definitely please a lot of MK fans.
The bad news here is that he will only be available to those who have purchased the Premium Edition, which really, really sucks. Warner Bros is basically trying to force MK players to purchase the more expensive Premium Edition. Oh, and let’s not forget that Shang Tsung is also locked behind a similar pre-order tactic. In these particular cases, I’m really glad that we have mods on PC. Because I’m certain that someone will release a similar skin for it on PC for free. It’s just ridiculous how Warner Bros treats its Mortal Kombat fans.
Mortal Kombat 1 will release on September 19th. The game will be using Unreal Engine 4, and here are its official PC system requirements.
As we’ve already reported, the game will be using the Denuvo anti-tamper tech at launch. In theory, Warner Bros will most likely remove it one or two years after release. After all, that’s exactly what the publisher did with Mortal Kombat 11.
Lastly, I should note that the Steam store page has removed the “Cross-Platform Multiplayer“ tag. From the looks of it, its inclusion was a mistake and nothing more. This doesn’t surprise me as Warner Bros claimed that Mortal Kombat 1 will support cross-play between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It’s also worth noting that QLOC will be handling the PC version (in other words, it won’t be developed in-house by NetherRealm Studios).
Enjoy the official Jean-Claude Van Damme trailer for Mortal Kombat 1. Oh, and I’ve also included the previous MK trailer in which we get to see Megan Fox as Nitara!
