Blizzard has released a new patch for Overwatch that adds 21:9 monitor support. Pretty cool right? Well, actually not as it appears that Blizzard – instead of increasing the game’s FOV – has basically cut the top and bottom screen in order to make the game playable on such monitors.
As NeoGAF’s member ‘Flandy’ showcased, playing in 21:9 reduces your overall FOV (16:9 images are on the left, whereas 21:9 images are on the right):
Blizzard’s Jeff Kaplan wrote on the official forum, claiming that there are no plans to increase the Overwatch FOV above 103.
“We do not plan to increase the max FOV beyond 103, in any resolution. I know this is not the answer our 21:9 players want to hear. But we feel like it would be unfair to 16:10 and 16:9 players if 21:9 gave a substantial FOV advantage.”
