Snapshot Games announced that Phoenix Point, a turn-based tactics and world-based strategy game, and a spiritual successor to the X-COM franchise, surpassed its crowd-publishing goal of $500K USD on Fig.
In addition, Snapshot Games revealed two key stretch goals. The $650K USD level brings ‘Driveable Vehicles’ to Phoenix Point, complete with customization, from body to weapons like high powered turrets. Vehicles will serve as troop carriers, provide heavy artillery support, and transport/retrieve equipment. The $850K USD level provides players with a ‘Floating Phoenix Base’, which is a fortress of operations to conduct air strikes as well as sea travel.
Set for a Q4 2018 launch, and in development for Windows PC, Mac and Linux, Phoenix Point comes from the minds of Julian Gollop, veteran designer of the original X-COM games, and David Kaye, the founder of Gaming Insiders.
In Phoenix Point, each mission will require you to deploy a squad of four or more soldiers, sometimes accompanied by aerial or ground based drones. Battles are turn based, with overwatch and return fire providing a great level of interaction. Soldiers have a willpower stat as well as endurance. Will points are used to spend on special abilities and strenuous physical or mental exertion.

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
