Pokemon-inspired creature-collection adventure game, Temtem, will remove microtransactions in next patch

Crema has announced that it will remove all microtransactions from its Pokemon-inspired creature-collection adventure game, Temtem, in its next update. Moreover, the team revealed that it has wrapped up its development. From Update 1.8 and onwards, the game will not receive any new content.

Crema claims that with the next patch (which will add the Arcade Bar) it will have fulfilled its Kickstarter promises. Temtem hit Steam Early Access in 2021, meaning that it took three years for the devs to meet their Kickstarter goals.

Temtem had a lot of potential. However, Crema attempted to turn Temtem into a live service game. Thankfully, the devs will remove all of the in-game microtransactions. As such, players won’t be able to purchase Novas anymore. The Novas you already own will be usable as always, and you’ll be able to purchase cosmetics from the Daily and Weekly Shop, as well as the Tamer Pass. Anything you could purchase with Novas will also be purchasable with Feathers from now on. This includes Tamer Passes, and anything from the Weekly and Daily shop.

In a way, this shows how developers have been manipulating their in-game currency in favor of micro-transactions. We’ve seen this in a lot of games. I get why Crema wanted to milk its golden cow, however, this plan has backfired in the worst possible way.

In my opinion, this is a great example of why PC gamers should stay away from Early Access and Kickstarter games. Okay okay, it’s not as disastrous as Mighty 7. It also wasn’t a scam like some other indie games. And I get that this dev model can help small studios to fulfill their dreams.

However, as a customer, I am against it. When I purchase a game, I want to get the full experience. I don’t want to pay for a game that MAY be finished in two-three years. By that time, I may be playing other games.

And that is that. I wish Crema the best, but I’m not certain whether its fans will support its future games. Temtem had A LOT of potential. Thus, it kind of sucks of what happened to it.

Stay tuned for more!
