The Farm 51 has announced that it will be adding Ray Tracing effects to the PC version of Chernobylite on April 21st. These RT effects will part of the Enhanced Edition which will be available to all PC owners of the base game.
Unfortunately, The Farm 51 did not reveal any additional details about these Ray Tracing effects. As such, we don’t know for which effects the team will be using Ray Tracing. My guess is that we will ray-traced reflections or shadows (which are usually the easiest RT effects to add to a game).
Chernobylite is a sci-fi survival horror RPG from the studio behind the critically-acclaimed Get Even. Chernobylite mixes free exploration of its disturbing world with challenging combat, crafting, and non-linear storytelling. Moreover, the game utilizes Unreal Engine 4 and is based on Reality 51’s scanning technology.
For those wondering, Chernobylite supported DLSS at launch. However, the game had some oily/ghosting issues (that you could easily notice on the moving grass and trees). We don’t know whether NVIDIA has fixed this issue.
If The Farm 51 uses Ray Tracing for multiple effects, we’ll make sure to benchmark and share some screenshots. However, if the team only adds ray-traced reflections, we won’t be covering the Enhanced Edition.
Stay tuned for more!
