Red Dead Redemption Remaster may be real, but don’t expect an announcement this weekend

Last month, we got some hints about a possible remaster of the first Red Dead Redemption game on current-gen platforms. And, while Red Dead Redemption Remaster may be real, you should not expect any kind of announcement this weekend.

But let’s take things from the beginning. In July 2023, Rockstar’s new site update added a new reference within the games list. The following is the new logo for Red Dead Redemption, with the game having the “RDR1RSP” codename. The codename appears to be “Red Dead Redemption 1 Remastered Single-Player” or “Red Dead Redemption 1 Remake Single-Player“.

Since this is coming straight from Rockstar’s website, we are confident that a remaster or a remake of Red Dead Redemption is indeed in development.

However, some rumors surfaced, suggesting an announcement before Take-Two’s upcoming financial report. That rumor suggested an August 4-6th announcement. And, as you may have guessed, nothing has happened. So no, don’t expect Take-Two and Rockstar to announce this remaster/remake later this weekend.

This is one of the reasons we didn’t initially report on this leak. At this point, there is nothing significant to discuss or share. Yes, Rockstar’s site hints at this remaster/remake, but until Take-Two officially announces it, there is nothing more to say. And while we’d love to see a legit leak, we’ve been bombarded with numerous fake leaks and rumors. Hell, some captured screenshots from RDR2 and passed them as early screenshots from this remaster/remake.

Now the good news for all PC gamers is that they can already play the original version of Red Dead Redemption via the Xbox 360 emulator, Xenia. Xenia currently runs the game incredibly well, especially if you have a high-end PC system.

So there you have it, everyone. I know that some of you wanted us to report on this but as I said, there is nothing important to share at this point. I mean, we don’t even know whether this will be a mere remaster or a full-on remake. Thus, until we have more details to share, we’d suggest taking everything you hear about RDR1RSP with a grain of salt!

UPDATE:

Rockstar has just announced that Red Dead Redemption will re-release on PS4 and Switch. This will be a simple port of the original game, without any enhancements. Curious enough, this re-release will not be coming to PC (though PC gamers will be at least able to use Yuzu or Ryujinx to plat it).
