Sonic fans, here is something for you today. Starteam has released a demo for Sonic Galactic, a new amazing 2D classic Sonic game that will be released for free on PC.
According to the team, Sonic Galactic is an interpretation of what a 2D-sidescrolling entry in the Sonic series could have looked like on 32-bit consoles. The game sports clean, hand-pixeled backgrounds and fluid animation. Plus, it aims for an aesthetic that pays tribute to the best of the era.
This new Sonic game has new zones, new concepts, new characters, a new setting, and more. The devs claim that they aim to put their own unique spin on the classic 2D Sonic formula. Moreover, this fan game will continue both the storyline and gameplay set forth from the classic Genesis/Mega Drive games.
Since I’m a big fan of classic 2D games, I highly recommend trying it. You can go ahead and download its demo from this link.
Now the good news here is that SEGA will not take down this fan game. After all, the team has been encouraging fans to create their very own Sonic games. This is the exact opposite of what Nintendo does. So, kudos to SEGA for being so consumer/gamer-friendly.
Speaking of Sonic fan games, I also suggest taking a look at the following ones. Project ’06 is a fan-made version of the Sonic 2006 game, and Sonic Project Hero is a free 3D Sonic game made in Unity Engine. You can also grab Open Sonic, a 16-bit remake of Sonic Triple Trouble. Then we have Sonic 3D in 2D, Sonic Omens, Sonic Robo Blast 2, Sonic 3 A.I.R., and Sonic 2 HD Demo for more Sonic fun.
And there are more. Project ’06 is a fan remake of the Sonic 2006 game, whereas Sonic Project Hero is a free 3D Sonic game in Unity Engine. You can also download Open Sonic, a 16bit remake of Sonic Triple Trouble, Sonic 3D in 2D, Sonic Omens, Sonic Robo Blast 2, Sonic 3 A.I.R., and Sonic 2 HD Demo. Oh, and let’s not forget Sonic Megamix Mania. This is a must for all old-school Sonic fans.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
