Starbreeze has revealed at GDC that they’ll be going free-to-play with a new title, called Cold Mercury. Although we don’t have any more information about it, we do know that Starbreeze will not abandon the AAA segment and given its free-to-play nature, we can safely assume that this game will hit the PC first.
Mikael Nermark, CEO of Starbreeze said:
“Starbreeze will not leave the AAA segment. We are discussing with several leading game publisher on publisher financed games, but we will broaden our product portfolio of games in the new business models and segments that have arisen in the games industry. I am convinced that Starbreeze will be successful with the new games.”

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
