Revolution Software has announced a 4K remaster of the first Broken Sword game, called Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged. In addition, the company is working on the next part of this adventure series, called Broken Sword – Parzival’s Stone.
Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged currently targets an early 2024 release date. This 4K remaster of Broken Sword is designed to enhance everything that fans love without losing the core charm that made the game an enduring classic over 25 years.
On the other hand, Broken Sword – Parzival’s Stone aims to feature a ‘super 2D’ visual approach. The game will offer hand-drawn HD backgrounds, applied to 3D geometry which delivers the visual style, in high resolution, but with the flexibility to create incredible cinematography that is only possible in 3D.
To be honest, and after watching the following trailer, I’m not that sold on this “super 2D” approach. During gameplay, Broken Sword – Parzival’s Stone feels fine. However, the cutscenes are nowhere close to what the original developers have managed to achieve in 2D.
Anyway, in this new Broken Sword game, George and Nico reunite but soon find themselves embroiled in a terrifying conspiracy involving Nazi treasure hunters, brutal medieval histories, and Quantum Physics.
Below you can find some screenshots from the Broken Sword Remaster, as well as a trailer for both of these two Broken Sword games.
Enjoy!
