It appears that the full source code of the first Far Cry game, developed by Crytek, has been leaked online. Far Cry is the game that put Crysis on everyone’s radar, so it will be interesting to see what modders can now achieve with it.
Ideally, we’d love to see someone adding native Ray Tracing – or even Path Tracing – effects. Imagine a fully path-traced version of Far Cry. Now that would be really cool. And, to be honest, we strongly believe that Far Cry could greatly benefit from Ray Tracing/Path Tracing.
Those interested can download the source code from here. From what we can see, this code is for version 1.34.
Speaking of the first Far Cry game, we also suggest taking a look at the following mods. FarCry Returns is an upcoming unofficial sequel to the game. On the other hand, the Far Cry Beta Restoration Mod attempts to restore content cut from the game’s beta phase. And lastly, Far Cry: Rework attempts to be an Enhanced Edition of the game’s Steam version.

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
