The Lords of Midnight and Doomdark’s Revenge are two classic role-playing strategy games by Mike Singleton. The first game was released back in 1984, while the second one was released the year after. Both of these games are free on GOG.
The Lords of Midnight featured an innovative 3D effect called landscaping, which served to bring the player into the game much more than usual. The player starts with four characters and then has the option to recruit up to twenty-eight further characters to join in the quest to destroy Doomdark, the evil Witchking who has locked the Land of Midnight in perpetual winter.
In Doomdark’s Revenge, the hero of the first game, Luxor the Moonprince, goes into the savage wastes of Icemark to save his son Morkin and defeat the evil Empress Shareth, daughter of his enemy Doomdark. The game has five factions to be recruited or fought. The main difference between this game and The Lords of Midnight is that the lords now all move and react independently, no longer content to sit in their castles and wait to be recruited.

Chris was born in the early 80’s along with the very birth of home gaming. After spending many maaany drachmas on arcades, his father decided to buy him a PC instead of going bankrupt. He lived through the advancing and development of the gaming industry, having played TONS of games on all platforms. He is always honest and will never hesitate to give his true opinion on a game no matter what. Loves stealth games and dislikes microtsansactions, DLC and pre-ordering…who doesn’t after all?!
