In February 2020, EA announced that Criterion Games will be working on the next Need for Speed game. However, it appears that the publisher has decided to delay this game so that Criterion can assist DICE with the development of the next Battlefield game.
Now while Criterion will be helping DICE, there will be another racing game from EA this year. This new racer will be coming from Codemasters, who EA recently acquired.
Regarding the next Battlefield, Laura Miele, EA’s chief officer, claimed that it’s shaping up to be great.
As Miele told Polygon:
“[Battlefield] is shaping up great, the team has been working incredibly hard, they pushed hard last year, and yes, we have been working from home. And it’s hard; it’s hard to make games from home, and the [EA DICE] team is fatigued a bit.
We have a great game and some incredible potential with this game. We’re playing to win; we’re playing to put a great Battlefield game out in the market.”
Lastly, here is some really early WIP from the new Need for Speed game.
John is the founder and Editor in Chief at DSOGaming. He is a PC gaming fan and highly supports the modding and indie communities. Before creating DSOGaming, John worked on numerous gaming websites. While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. John has also written a higher degree thesis on the “The Evolution of PC graphics cards.”
