In an interview with PCGamesHardware, Ubisoft’s Technical Director Calle Lejdfors revealed that Tom Clancy’s The Division, like its predecessor, will support DirectX 12 alongside DirectX 11. Furthermore, and contrary to games like Resident Evil 2 Remake, it is said that the DX12 mode will run better/faster than DX11.
As Lejdfors told PCGamesHardware:
“Yes, we are still very much supporting DX12 and in TCTD2, DX12 performance over DX11 should be even better. This is in large part due to us making better use of Async Compute to parallelize more graphics work to ensure maximal GPU utilization. When it comes to performance, we are not pulling any punches and will make use of all tools in the toolbox. The only thing we do not yet have is variable rate shading, but rest assured that is an active area of research for future performance improvements.”
Given that DX12 can use multi-core CPUs more efficiently than DX11, we should also see better utilization – and framerates – in CPU-bound scenes. As such, it will be interesting to test both DX12 and DX11 modes when the game comes out and see whether PC gamers should use Microsoft’s latest API.
Ubisoft has also released some new screenshots for The Division 2 that you can find below.
The game is currently planned for a March 15th release!
