Now here is something that passed under my radar. In 2023, AngelOfDarkness released a free remake of the first Tomb Raider game, called Tomb Raider Redux. This fan remake is still available for download, so make sure to get it while you still can.
Going into more details, AngelOfDarkness has re-made and re-imagined the first Tomb Raider game in Tomb Raider Level Editor. This fan remake combines elements of Core’s unreleased Anniversary Edition with Crystal Dynamic’s Tomb Raider Anniversary. So, think of it as a cool mix between them. Moreover, it packs a number of original ideas.
As you’ll see in the following gameplay video, this remake is all about gameplay refinements. Lara’s movements have been overhauled, and the game plays a lot better. This remake does not focus on improving the game’s graphics. So, don’t expect any fancy Ray Tracing effects. Still, compared to the first game, Lara’s 3D model has been improved. So that’s at least something.
Anyway, those interested can go ahead and download Tomb Raider Redux from this link. Embracer Group currently owns the rights to Tomb Raider. And, given what’s been happening lately, I don’t expect them to take it down. Still, I suggest grabbing it immediately. You never know what may happen in a month or two.
TR fans can also try Tomb Raider Caves HD Remaster Project. This is a fan remake of the Caves map from the first game in the Tomb Raider 4 Engine. Oh, there is also a Super Mario 64 Mod you can download for Tomb Raider.
Speaking of Tomb Raider, the first RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod has been released for its original 1996 version. While this mod is still in development, it can give you a glimpse at how Path Tracing can overhaul its graphics. However, as with all the RTX Remix Mods we’ve shared, it’s quite demanding. So, make sure to have a high-end GPU, otherwise you might encounter performance issues.
Finally, you can check out the first artwork for Lara Croft for the new Tomb Raider game. This new TR game will be powered by Unreal Engine 5, and it will target current-gen platforms. Sadly, though, there is no ETA on when it will come out. Still, these artworks will give you an idea of what Lara may look like.
Stay tuned for more!

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
