Well, it was to be expected. After all these years, the fight between Crytek and Epic Games is still strong. And according to Mark Rein, Epic Games’ CEO, the Unreal Engine is still the best engine ever. During his latest interview with EDGE, Mark laughed and prompted to skip the question about whether he’s getting fed up with being asked about Crytek’s CryEngine.
Mark Rein told to EDGE:
“I’m very happy with where we are today. We have really great engine technology, the best tools. We’ve explored the future with Samaritan and delivered that technology already today. We’re running on all the best mobile platforms and there’ll be more coming. We have UDK which broadens its availability to virtually anybody at a really great price.”
“So, competitively, I think we’re in a very good shape. There’s other companies out there doing great stuff, but I don’t need to talk about them. I just need to remind people that, you know, we’re still the best.”

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. John has also written a higher degree thesis on the “The Evolution of PC graphics cards.”
