It appears that Blizzard has made some noteworthy rendering changes to World of Warcraft as this massive MMORPG does no longer support the DX9 API. Instead, the team has now added full support for Microsoft’s latest API, DirectX 12, meaning that players can now choose between DX11 and DX12.
While it appears that the team has not implemented any exclusive DX12 features or improvements, it’s a pretty cool addition. Also, do note that the DX12 mode is only available right now for AMD users. NVIDIA users can enable it, however performance takes a noticeable hit (so for now stick with DX11).
Blizzard has also removed the fullscreen exclusive mode that it supported before. As such, gamers can now choose between Windowed and Fullscreen Windowed. Moreover, the game has ditched its old “low, medium, high” settings and is now using sliders from 1 to 10.
Last but not least, World of Warcraft is now a subscription-only game, meaning that PC gamers will no longer have to purchase a retail copy and a subscription in order to play it.

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
