Square Enix has released Patch 1.02 for the PC version of Final Fantasy 16, and shared its full changelog. This update fixes a number of issues that plagued the PC version. So, let’s see in more detail what the devs have fixed.
Title Update 1.02 fixes an issue with mouse scrolling when using aspect ratio settings other than 16:9. It also fixes issues with in-game access point interaction when using borderless window mode in conjunction with aspect ratio settings other than 16:9.
Moreover, it addresses issues that could cause the graphics to not display properly on certain screens. Plus, the game will be now more stable as the devs have fixed some crashes.
Square Enix also claimed that it adjusted the Graphical Fidelity settings to improve overall game performance. My guess is that the team has adjusted the in-game presets. This means that High Settings will now run better, but they’ll also look worse than before. In other words, I don’t see any engine optimizations.
This is a bit disappointing as Final Fantasy 16 could definitely benefit from some additional optimizations. Not only that but the devs have not fixed all the issues that were fixed by modders. For instance, the in-engine cinematics are still locked at 30fps. Plus, the game does not have a FOV slider. Therefore, you’ll still need to use the FFXVIFix Mod.
As I’ve also reported, there is a mod that replaces the 30fps pre-rendered cut-scenes with 60fps versions. This is a must for everyone as it will allow you to enjoy all those crazy cinematics at 60fps.
All in all, it’s a bummer we still have to rely on mods to properly enjoy this new FF game. But hey, at least there are workarounds. So, thank God modders.
Like always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client. Below you can also find its complete changelog. So, go ahead and take a look at it.
