NVIDIA announced the release of a new update for Portal with RTX. This update adds support for DLSS 3.5 Ray Reconstruction and RTX IO. Basically, these will make the game look even better and run smoother. The Ray Reconstruction tech makes the Ray Tracing effects in the game look even better, while RTX IO makes everything load faster.
NVIDIA also shared some performance figures. Using NVIDIA DLSS 3.5, frame rates on the GeForce RTX 4090 are multiplied by 6.2X, and on the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER, gamers receive a 6.7X boost. Do note that these numbers are between DLSS 3.5 On vs Off. They are not between DLSS 3 and DLSS 3.5. From what I know, NVIDIA also uses the Performance Mode for DLSS, and not the Quality Mode.
At 2560×1440, the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER, 4070 Ti SUPER, 4080, 4080 SUPER and 4090 will be able to max everything out and play at over 80FPS with DLSS 3.5. The NVIDIA RTX4090 should also offer framerates up to 160FPS.
For 1080p, NVIDIA claims that all GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs should be able to play the game at over 70FPS. Again, that’s with DLSS 3.5 Performance Mode. And, honestly, using Performance Mode at 1080p is not THAT great. At least in our opinion.
As said, NVIDIA RTX IO is also now available in Portal with RTX. NVIDIA RTX IO enables fast GPU-based loading and game asset decompression, massively accelerating IO performance compared to hard drives and traditional storage APIs. NVIDIA RTX IO leverages GPU decompression for smaller data packages, enabling faster texture load times and lower CPU utilization, and allows developers to create a new generation of games with massive highly detailed worlds.
The green team claims that with NVIDIA RTX IO, texture load timeshare will be reduced by up to 5X. Moreover, it should reduce the disk drive footprint of Portal with RTX by 37%.
