Cloud Imperium has released Star Citizen Alpha 4.1, and shared its key features. So, let’s take a closer look and see what this new version brings to the table.
Star Citizen Alpha 4.1 adds new burrowing worm fauna, called Juvenile Valakkar. Moreover, it updates NPCs around landing zones and outposts with dozens of new dynamic conversation lines. Players can also expect new DNA faces and animations for all NPCs. According to the devs, these will bring more variety and immersion to their presence.
Cloud Imperium has also made huge improvements to Collision Physics. Ship Collision damage handling is now done using full collision data passed down by physics. This means mass and speed are now calculated in the collision and will make collision damage between all ships, big and small, behave more realistically.
Star Citizen Alpha 4.1 also brings a new style of gameplay with Align and Mine. This new sandbox activity brings players to 2 moons in Stanton (Aberdeen and Daymar) with 3 ground-based Hathor Alignment Facilities and 1 Orbital Mining Station each. Players will need to navigate the facility buildings to grab keycards to unlock new areas leading to the final terminal to align the satellite to the orbital station above. Once all 3 ground locations have been aligned and the batteries from each location acquired, players need to navigate the station above and use the batteries to power the Orbital mining beam. Once active, players will then head back down to the ground bunker for the final beam activation that will shoot down from space, breaking open a new Cave with valuable hand and ground vehicle mineables.
Not only that, but the devs have made numerous updates to help reduce BWin spikes which caused many delays around the PU. They have also added new maps to Arena Commander, and made several balance tweaks to ships and weapons.
Finally, Star Citizen should be more stable now on your PC. The devs have fixed 7 client crashes and 6 Server Crashes. They have also fixed an issue causing crashes and artifacting with Nvidia GPUs while using Vulkan.
Star Citizen Alpha 4.0 came out in December 2024. This means that it took the devs around three months to release Alpha 4.1. And, in case you’re wondering, no. There is still no ETA for when Squadron 42 will come out. Realistically, you should not be expecting it in 2025. So, fingers crossed it will come out in 2026.
