Tekken 8 Patch 2.00 Released, Packing Major Character Changes

Bandai Namco has just released Title Update 2.00 and Season 2 for Tekken 8, and shared its full patch notes. This patch brings major changes to pretty much all characters, so let’s see what Bandai Namco has brought to the table.

Title Update 2.00 overhauls the game’s Ranked System. As the devs noted, they have changed Matchmaking so that players can battle others with a closer skill level. This means that Matchmaking will no longer take into account your Tekken Prowess. Instead, it will now consider the rank of the character currently in use and the player’s highest rank among all used characters.

Patch 2.00 also changes the Point Gain/Loss System. Now, the higher your opponent’s rank is, the more points you will earn for a win. Moreover, the lower your opponent’s rank is, the more points you will lose for a defeat.

The big meat of Update 2.00 is the tweaks and changes the devs have done to the entire roster. You can find all of the changes here.

From what I could see, the most broken characters – like King, Alissa, or Dragunov – have not received any major nerfs. Instead, the devs have added new moves and adjusted the Heat Engagers so that it can be more 50/50.

Hilariously, in just a matter of hours, players have discovered a bug that allows Paul to hit you while blocking. And no, this isn’t an April’s Fools Joke. Paul is now completely broken as he can use a simple combo that can hit you even if you’re blocking.

Given the huge list of changes, it’s understandable that such bugs can surface. I just hope that the Tekken devs will react quickly to fix this. And when I say quickly, I mean in a matter of days, not in a matter of weeks.

As a Hwoarang player, I don’t really mind the change regarding the KI Charge. After all, I barely used it. So, I won’t really comment on the changes until I’ve tried them myself.

From what I’ve read, though, there aren’t a lot of nerfs for most characters. Instead, the devs have added new moves and buffed most of them.

I’d personally prefer if the devs nerfed most – if not all – characters and better balanced them, instead of giving them new moves. And I get it. Giving players new moves is the easy way to impress them. However, T8 had major balance issues, and those issues will get even bigger with the addition of brand new moves.

Like always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client. And, as I said, you can find the full list of character changes on the game’s official website.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
