MAWI United has shared a video, showcasing a new Dune Desert Landscape tech demo for Unreal Engine 5.3. This demo shows off the stone pit area of the 400 sqkm Dune Desert that the team has created.
From the looks of it, this is a new area from the Dune Desert Landscape project that the team created back in January 2023. As the title suggests, this project has been upgraded to Unreal Engine 5.3.
From what we know, the Dune Desert Landscape Demo uses both Lumen and Nanite. The majority of assets use 4K base color, normal, and utility textures. Moreover, the team used 1 million polygons for palms, 1-2 million polygons for rocks/debris, and 4000-200 polygons for plants.
The end result is pretty amazing. However, you’ll also need a really biffy PC system. Its UE5.1 demo pushed the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 to its limits. NVIDIA’s most powerful GPU was unable to run it smoothly at Native 4K with 60fps.
The bad news here is that the demo is not available for download. MAWI claims that there is a download link for its runtime demo on its official site. However, that page does not have any free download links. Instead, you’ll have to pay $3.99 for its custom EULA. Ironically, MAWI had previously provided free download links for its tech demos. However, I’ve just checked and their Google Drive links are no longer available. So yeah, that kind of sucks.
Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, you may be also interested in these other videos. For instance, you can find some faithful remasters of Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3, which are super cool. Then there’s this fantastic fan remake of STALKER that’s worth a look. Oh, and don’t miss the Grand Theft Auto 6 fan concept in UE5; it’s pretty impressive. Earlier this month, we also shared a fan remake video of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas in Unreal Engine 5, as well as an Uncharted fan game. We also have a fan remaster of Unreal Gold in UE5. You should also watch the full-on remake video for Final Fantasy 9.
Need for Speed Most Wanted, Need for Speed Carbon and Tony Hawk’s Underground have also received some cool remakes. And if that’s not enough, there are fan remakes for Death Stranding, Fallout 4, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s Solitude, Grand Theft Auto 4, Fallout 4, Resident Evil 1, Skyrim’s Winterhold and Skyrim’s Whiterun. There is also this Studio Ghibli stylized teaser for Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine 5. So, lots of UE5 fan remakes, right? Well, since they’re all really cool, we suggest giving them a watch.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
