NVIDIA GeForce RTX4090 has no trouble running Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 with over 120fps at Native 4K/Max Settings

Activision has launched the Open Beta phase for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. As such, we’ve decided to test it and share our initial PC performance impressions. How well does this game run on a high-end PC? Well, time to find out.

For these early PC benchmarks, we used an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, 32GB of DDR5 at 6000Mhz, and NVIDIA’s RTX 4090. We also used Windows 10 64-bit and the GeForce 537.58 driver. Moreover, we’ve disabled the second CCD on our 7950X3D.

At Native 4K/Max Settings, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 was able to push framerates above 120fps. Surprisingly enough, Ground War was also less demanding than Domination. Ground War can support up to 64 players in large environments. On the other hand, Domination supports 16 players and pits two teams against each other in smaller maps.

COD: MW3 compiles its shaders the first time you launch it. As such, you won’t be experiencing any shader compilation stutters. Moreover, we did not experience any traversal stutters (even in Ground War) or stability issues.

This Multiplayer Open Beta currently supports NVIDIA DLSS 2 and AMD FSR 2.1. However, there is currently no support for DLSS 3. Activision has stated that the final version will support DLSS 3 at launch. And, to be honest, we suggest avoiding DLSS 3 (but using NVIDIA Reflex) when playing online. For its single-player campaign, however, DLSS 3 will certainly be a nice welcome.

For what it’s worth, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 looks and feels like a COD game. Below you can find a 10-minute playthrough, in which I’ve included MSI Afterburner. As you will see, the RTX 4090 has no trouble pushing high framerates.

I should also note that COD: MW3’s Open Beta does not feature any Ray Tracing effects. This is a bit disappointing as the game could benefit from RTGI or RTAO. The game looks fine, but it’s not really pushing the graphical boundaries of MP FPS games.

Activision will release Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on November 10th. For our upcoming PC Performance Analysis, we’ll be using the game’s single-player campaign. In theory, the campaign should be more demanding than its MP Mode.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
