Dune Awakening will be powered by Unreal Engine 5, and it will take full advantage of both Nanite and Lumen. In March 2024, Funcom shared its first gameplay trailer which gave us a look at its art style and graphics. And, from the looks of it, some new in-game screenshots from its ongoing Closed Beta phase have been leaked online.
The leaked screenshots for Dune: Awakening aren’t super clear, which is a bummer. As you will see, they are of low quality. But from what we can tell, the graphics seem pretty similar to what we saw in the first gameplay trailer. So, nope, looks like there hasn’t been any downgrade in graphics. That’s great news for those who are looking forward to it.
The leaked screenshots also give us a glimpse at the game’s HUD and character creator. Since the game is in its beta phase, though, things may change.
Dune Awakening promises to mix the cool stuff from sandbox survival games with the social fun of big multiplayer games. Or at least that’s Funcom’s intention. Just like other games, it’s got combat, experience points, a crafting system, as well as a base-building system. This isn’t my cup of tea but I can see why Funcom went into that MMO route.
Players will be able to craft their identity and build their prowess, from deep character creation to skills and abilities. Then, they’ll be able to search the deserts for massive spice blows to harvest the most valuable resource in the universe. Moreover, they’ll be able to create a guild and grow it into a House Minor by allying yourself with one of the Great Houses.
There is currently no ETA on when Dune Awakening will come out. Naturally, though, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
Enjoy the leaked screenshots!
Thanks Reddit
UPDATE:
It appears that these screenshots are official ones that Funcom shared at GDC 2024. They are not from the Closed Beta phase. Kudos to WCCFTech‘s Alessio who got in touch with us to let us know. So, I’ve replaced the images with higher quality screenshots.
