Although Blizzard has not announced anything yet about a remastered version of Diablo 2, Reddit’s member Indoflaven has experimented with some AI upscaing techniques and shared some screenshots, showing what a modern-day remaster of this hack n slash action RPG could look like.
Indoflaven used the Manga109 model for ESRGAN in order to upscale these screenshots (with their original resolution being 1024×768). The end result is amazing and makes Diablo 2 look clean and sharp.
Unfortunately, Indoflaven did not upscale the textures themselves in order to provide a HD Texture Pack for it. According to modders, Diablo 2 is notoriously hard to mod at the moment so we may never see such an ESRGAN pack for it.
Still, these screenshots look retro-beautiful which is why we’ve decided to share them.
There are rumours that Blizzard may be working on an official remaster for Diablo 2, however nothing has been confirmed at this point. Still, and if such a remaster comes out, we can at least hope that it will just as good as these screenshots.
Enjoy!
