Jonathon Gregory Bick, environment artist at Rockstar Games, has shared some impressive Dark Souls-inspired screenshots in Unreal Engine 5.
Going into more details, these screenshots are from one of Jonathon’s personal projects. These screenshots are NOT from any upcoming official Rockstar game. In other words, no. Rockstar has not switched to Unreal Engine 5 for its upcoming titles.
With this out of the way, we can now talk about the screenshots. As we can see, the first two screenshots are heavily inspired by FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series. Seriously, one could have easily mistaken them as screenshots from a new Dark Souls game. They look THAT good. The fourth screenshot loses its Dark Souls vibes and goes for a “The Witcher 3” style. And, since The Witcher 4 will be using UE5, this screenshot could potentially give us a glimpse at what this game may look like.
As a bonus, Ben Hand, associate environment artist at Rockstar, has also shared some dark fantasy screenshots. Ben took advantage of Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen in order to create these screenshots, which look really cool.
Since Rockstar’s artists are currently able to provide this kind of visuals, I really hope that their next game will look as impressive as these screenshots. That, or we can hope other developers to up their game and match – or even surpass – what these artists showcased here.
Speaking of Rockstar, there is still no word on when Grand Theft Auto 6 will come out. In 2022, hackers got access to the game’s source code and leaked part of it. We also know that GTA6 is real as numerous WIP gameplay clips from it leaked online.
Enjoy the screenshots and stay tuned for more!

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
