Microsoft has announced that a new expansion will be released for Age of Empires II HD on December 19th. This expansion, titled Rise of the Rajas, will be the third official expansion for Age of Empires II and will feature four additional civilizations, new units, technologies, and will offer players the ability to build their empire on both water and land. A lot of players were disappointed with the performance of Age of Empires 2’s HD Edition. Thankfully, the development team has released a beta update that offers up to 50% performance improvements on low-end systems and up to 500% performance improvements on high-end systems. This improved build is currently available only on the “performance build” beta, meaning that you will have to opt for AoE2 HD’s beta patches/updates. You can view its complete changelog below. Now here is something really cool. YouTube’s ‘falcont2tjockey’ has recreated Bethesda’s Skyrim in Age of Empires 2. Well okay, this is a parody but still, it’s Skyrim in Age of Empires 2. And you know what? We’d actually love to play it. Honestly. It’s cool, it’s funny, it’s well made, and it shows why we all love mods. Yesterday, we informed you about the HD version of Age of Empires II and today we are delighted to present you the game’s announcement trailer, as well as the first details about it. Yeap, Age of Empires II HD is for real and is coming on Steam. The game is said to feature remastered visuals in HD, multi-monitor support, Steam workshop support, and an improved multiplayer mode. Now here is something really interesting. A HD version of Essemble Studios’ classic strategy game, Age of Empires II, has appeared on Steam’s registry. This HD version was added yesterday, on March 5th, and according to Steam’s registry, this will be a gift and not a proper game.
