Skyrim Texture Optimizer Released; lowers your vRAM usage when HD Texture Packs are enabled

Skyrim has seen a lot of HD texture packs these past months and if you tried to enable some of them simultaneously, you would definitely notice your GPU hitting its vRAM limits. Thankfully, modder ‘AdPipino’ released a great tool called Textures Optimizer. Practically this program does not affect the quality of textures (1% if the original is in TGA / BMP). Texture Optimizer basically compresses (via lossless methods) the textures to a format that takes up less space in memory to avoid slow loading. This is how Skyrim would look like in Unreal Engine

Map maker mrsmo3d has created a pretty amazing open-level on UDK that will certainly remind you of Skyrim. This environment is based in Sweden, in one of its many fjords sits this typical fishing village with fortifications surrounding the houses, intended to be a crisp early morning, the surrounding area has a river flowing to the lake from the mountains behind. This is basically a Viking age environment built and took the modder around 6 months to create it. It looks bloody amazing, so go ahead and give it a go! You know what, Arkane Studios is a really talented studio. Although both Arx Fatalis and the mind-blowing FPS/action RPG hybrid, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, didn’t meet a commercial success, they were among the best action FPS games of their times. And naturally, their upcoming FPS called ‘Dishonored’ looks even more interesting than both of those two aforementioned titles. In a recent video interview with Gamespot, Arkane’s co-creative directos Raphael Colantonio and Harvey Smith revealed some interesting new details about it. Continue reading Dishonored promises to be a crazy combination of BioShock, Deus Ex, Thief and Assassin’s Creed
