Back in February, we informed you about a mod that added Razer Hydra and Oculus Rift support to Half Life 2 and Black Mesa. And today, we are happy to report that this mod – created by Nathan Andrews – is finally available for download as an alpha version. Sounds amazing, right? Well it does but how many of you have that equipment? Still, it’s great to see such an incredible mod getting released, even in its early stage of development. This is it everyone, this is the time you’ve all been waiting for. Black Mesa Source, the stand-alone remake of Half-Life that is powered by the Source engine, has just been released. The vaporware of mods, the Duke Nukem Forever of mods, the mod that most thought would never see the light of day, the mod that has been under development for eight whole years… is finally here with us. PC gamers will need Source’s SDK to run Black Mesa Source. As we’ve said and before, this version of Black Mesa Source does not feature the Xen area of Half-Life. The Black Mesa team has released a new set of screenshots for Black Mesa Source. Black Mesa Source is planned for a September 14th release and will not include the Xen environemnts of Half Life. The team felt the need to release Black Mesa Source right now, and Xen (completely reworked and expanded) will be added at a later date via an update. Enjoy! Now this is how you create mind-blowing tributes (or trailers). Pedro Calvo has created an amazing video tribute to Black Mesa, with Joel Nielsen’s music and Victoria Teunissen on vocal duties (Connor Pelkey has also halped in creating this video with his Voice Engineering skills). And quite frankly, this is the most beautiful tribute we’ve ever seen. It’s emotional, Victoria’s voice is great, Joel’s music is outstanding, and the whole video feels so warm and calm. Now this is how trailers should be made. Forget those dubstep crap. This is art. Let us also remind you that Black Mesa Source is currently planned for a September 14th release. Enjoy! Back in April, we said that Black Mesa Source would be released this Summer. Well, guess what everyone. The Black Mesa team has just announced that the game will be coming on September 14th. Yeah, Black Mesa: Source has a release date and is almost two weeks away from us. And do we have to remind you that Summer ends – typically – at September 22nd? So yes, Black Mesa: Source is coming this Summer and you were the first to know about it. Continue reading Black Mesa: Source Gets A Release Date→
Remember that leaked gameplay footage of Black Mesa: Source? Well, as you can see the video has been taken down. According to the team, they were always intending to release a video, and this was an early cut that wasn’t meant to be posted. However, the team strongly feels that it should be on their own terms; it shouldn’t be a way for an unrelated third-party to drum up their own publicity. Obviously the team is speaking about ValveTime, as rumor has it that they didn’t discuss with the Black Mesa team the terms for releasing that video. Continue reading Black Mesa: Source Leaked Footage Has Been Taken Down, New Proper Footage To Be Unveiled Shortly→
ValveTime shared some new gameplay footage from the highly anticipated Source freeware stand-alone game, Black Mesa: Source. We are pretty sure that Half Life fans will appreciate it, so waste no time and go ahead and watch it. For those who can wait a bit, let us tell you that you will see some generic AI, a couple of low-res textures and added iron-sights for some weapons. What’s really interesting though is that the level that is being demonstrated is from the later levels of Half-Life, meaning that Black Mesa: Source is nearing completion. Oh, and did we say that both the sound effects and the music are top notch? Enjoy the trailer and stay tuned for more! Continue reading Black Mesa: Source – New Gameplay Footage→
The FB page of Black Mesa: Source has just hit 20K likes and the Black Mesa team has now kicked off their social-media campaign towards their first release. This new batch of screenshots really give the first glimpse into the gameplay of Black Mesa and be sure to keep an eye on them as they have more in store for us in the near future. In other words, this is the start of Black Mesa: Source’s hype machine, so get ready everyone. Truth be told, we hoped for a video release but that’s okay if the team keeps releasing updates more frequently. Enjoy the shots after the jump! Continue reading Black Mesa: Source FB page hits 20K likes; new screenshots released→
I seriously don’t know whether this is good or bad news. A couple of minutes ago, the Black Mesa team revealed that they’ll be releasing some new media for their game when their Facebook page hits 20K likes and as of right now, there are only 7K likes. You see, it might take a while until their FB page hits this target and imagine if they release a couple of screenshots when they hit that mark. Yeah, it will be cool but at this point, we bet that most of you are interested on a video (or the mod itself). Continue reading Attention Half-Life fans; Incoming Black Mesa: Source Media→
Although most of Half Life fans are disappointed with the whole Black Mesa thing, we do know that you can’t wait to get your hands on it. After last week’s small hype, a fan decided to go ahead and state that he’d donate $150 to the devs’ paypal account if Black Mesa: Source is released before December 1st. Instead of bashing that fan though, James Kane, decided to accept his challenge, hinting that the game would – actually – get released this year.
