The team behind Black Mesa: Insecurity, a a re-imagining of the Half-Life expansion Blue Shift, created for the Source engine mod Black Mesa, has released the first screenshots for it. This mod is being created by two gamers, and is 33% complete. There is still no ETA yet, but the duo is working hard to finish it. 2012 was a great year for PC games mods. Not only did we get DayZ and Black Mesa, but we also enjoyed Brutal Doom, Cry of Fear as well as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II and Fallout: New Vegas with their contents that were cut off from their vanilla versions. Oh, and Skyrim got one hell of mods. And let’s not forget mods such as Doom: The Mercenaries that brings together the past (2D sprites) with the present (latest versions of Resident Evil). Black Mesa can be definitely described as the next ‘Duke Nukem Forever’ in the mod-land. This bad boy has been in development for lots of years and although a lot of people think that it’s just a vaporware and nothing more, the team behind it has just released a brand new screenshot from its latest build. Now I’ll be honest here; it does look great. Yeah, this is a Source game but the level of detail is great and can keep up with today’s standards.
