Bohemia must feel really great with ArmA 3’s success. Despite the fact that the game is still in alpha stage, ArmA 3’s users are already more than those of all previous ArmA games combined. This further shows that there is a market for hardcore sim titles. That, or most of those guys purchased this new ArmA game in order to be ready for a possible DayZ mod. Either way, we are sure that Bohemia enjoys ArmA 3’s early success, so it will be interesting to see whether the final game will meet commercial success or not. Special thanks to Guru3D’s reader ‘Chillin’ for spotting it. You can view a Steamgraph with all ArmA games below, and make sure to read our Performance Overview. Bohemia Interactive was kind enough to provide us with an alpha code for its military sim FPS title, ArmA 3, so it’s time to see how this upcoming PC exclusive title performs on our platform. Before continuing, let us remind you that this is an alpha build, meaning that it does not reflect the final product. Obviously, some may ask then “So why are you guys doing a Performance Overview”? Well, the answer is simple; our purpose is to provide Bohemia with information regarding the game’s performance, in the hopes of further optimizing the game until it gets out. This is crucial, as we’ve seen lately a large number of PC titles suffering from such issues. Continue reading ArmA 3 – Alpha Performance Overview→
Dean “Rocket” Hall has released a new devblog for the standalone version of DayZ, showcasing 20 minutes of gameplay footage. DayZ Standalone features better visuals than its mod counterpart, though we can see all known ‘issues’ that are present in Bohemia’s ArmA titles – like low-res blurry textures at the distance and flickering objects. Naturally, some of them will be ironed while other won’t be fixed or tweaked (a ‘noisy’ texture would be ideal for the distant textures. After all, that was the technique that a lot of Skyrim modders followed in order to provide a better IQ). Still, DayZ is not popular for its visuals, but for its atmosphere and gameplay mechanics. And thankfully, this standalone version looks even better than its mod version. DayZ Standalone is planned for release later this year. Enjoy!
