We’ve been saying that CryEngine 3 is one of the most efficient and most impressive game engines out there and a few modders decided to prove our point. And although we decided to keep some maps for our upcoming ‘Weekly CryEngine 3 Gallery’ feature, we can’t help but be impressed by modder’s hostilis work. This is one of the best foliage maps we’ve ever seen and pushes 49k instances and 800k polies in screen. Not only that, but the modder has used his own textures. Make no mistake, this can’t be achieved by current generation consoles. High quality textures, great LOD, incredible draw distance, huge environments with lots of detail, insane amounts of objects on-screen, and a lighting system with dynamic shadows and illumination effects. You might think that this is a simple map but no, when you start taking into consideration all of the features that are included, you can easily see why we’re not getting this kind of graphics in our current generation games. You can find some shots below, as well as a fly-through video. Enjoy! Continue reading Crysis 2 Modder introduces a custom foliage map that pushes 49k instances and 800k polies→
Although we have some interesting CryEngine 3 shots for all of you today, nothing can really come close to what modder ‘wenda’ has achieved. Wenda has released a video of his WIP map and we have to say that this is exactly how Skyrim would look like in CryEngine 3. The attention to detail is really amazing and although we’ve included an image from it, you really need to see it in motion. Alongside wenda’s work, we bring you some screenshots from the works of Cleric, RayFan9876, themodman101, [LSD]Timewarp82, birdeez and BmB. Enjoy! A while ago, we posted some images of an upcoming map for Crysis 2 that would be based on Epic Games’ classic FPS game, Unreal. Modder ‘Cleric’ has released some new screenshots from his on-going work and we are happy to bring them to you. The map has been tweaked and looks better than before. Sadly, there is no ETA yet but we’ll keep you posted, so stay tuned. Enjoy! Continue reading Unreal comes to CryEngine 3 with this custom map – Part 2→
Contrary to our previous CryEngine 3 gallery, this one is filled with some gorgeous surprises. Today we bring you an early shot of a Trespasser remake, an amazing of 3d model of a dwarf, a drooling aircraft ‘hangar’ level and some jaw-droping shots from an upcoming mod called ‘Crysis 2: Warhead 2’. This is perhaps one of our best CryEngine 3 galleries, so be sure to check it out. Enjoy the screenshots from modders rGot, ace mcgee, Stallownage, blackhorizon, drycry, The Vulture, Skynet3D, chicken and sumisukyo. Continue reading Weekly CryEngine 3 Gallery [March 11th – 17th]→
Crytek has released a proper version of their tech trailer that was showcased in this year’s GDC. This trailer showcases the new features that the engine supports. Now I’ll have to be honest here. Although it does look good, it isn’t the Crytek trailers that have been pushing the graphical boundaries. In other words, we’ve seen better but then again, we’ve seen and worse too. Enjoy! Crysis 2 modder ‘TheModMan101’ has released a high-resolution asset pack for Crytek’s little gem. This Alpine Asset Pack features – among other things – new textures for Pine Needles, Moss, Mud, Gravel, Pebbles, and Grass. TheModMan101 has also released some screenshots from it that can be viewed below. The end result is amazing and we can’t wait to see those assets being used in custom-made maps/mods. Back in the Quake 2 days, Unreal was bashed to death. I tell you guys, there were lots of PC gamers that hated it (my guess is that they bashed it because their PC systems could not run it). Ironically, these days it is considered one of the best FPS titles and we are glad to see most of those naysayers admitting that it was way ahead of its time. Man, I still remember the first encounter with the Scaarj. Or when you got out of the spaceship and admired that beautiful, huge level with the waterfall. Those were some pretty impressive visuals. It seems that Crysis 2’s modders are really addicted to the jungle environments, as we got this week lots of shots from some jungle maps that are currently on development. However, there is one shot from Neolight that is simply beyond anything we’ve seen so far. Neolight has created a cinematic wide shot of some fantastical world that looks bloody amazing. Alongside that shot, we bring you today some images from modders rGOt, neo83_gr, iSqueezee, darkchazz, ReVan1199, as well as a machinima video from ShadosProd. Enjoy! Continue reading Weekly CryEngine 3 Gallery [March 4th – 10th]→

Modder ‘wenda’ has created an amazing rocky scene and you can view a fly-through video of it below.
