Modder ‘maikel’ has released a new CryEngine 3 video that shows off what ‘natural lighting’ would look like in a video-game. The modder has been looking at how light works in the real world and how this can be translated in a game engine and his research is designed to answer: a) How does direct light, indirect light and atmospheric effects work in the real world and b) How can this be translated into a game engine. The end result is great and you can view its video, as well as some screenshots, bellow. Enjoy! Continue reading New CryEngine 3 video shows off ‘Natural Lighting’ in video games→
Mapper ‘Cleric’ has released some new screenshots from his Quake map that is under development for Crysis 2. This is basically a re-imagining of Quake’s first level and uses some of the assets found in iD Software’s classic shooter, like the ammo crates and the button switches. This is an excellent work and Cleric deserves the spotlight as the map will be finished soon. Enjoy the screenshots after the jump! Continue reading New screenshots from Crysis 2’s Quake map→
Okay, now that was unexpected. Mapper Chrome235 has revealed a screenshot that showcases how Mordor and LOTR would look like in CryEngine 3. This is basically an artwork – or a wallpaper – that borrows some assets from the movies. In other words, this is not a custom map. Still, it’s pretty amazing and makes us wish for a LOTR game, powered by Crytek’s engine. Alongside this shot, we bring you some new images from modders/mappers Tiesto, TheMagnumman357, chicken, rGOt, and ReVan1199. Enjoy! Continue reading Weekly CryEngine 3 Gallery [January 22nd – 28th]; LOTR’s Mordor comes to CryEngine 3→

Remember when we told you, earlier last week, that Duke Nukem 3D would be coming to CryEngine 3? Well, it seems that another classic game will also find its way to Crytek’s engine. Mapper ‘Cleric’ was working in a CryEngine 2 map that would be based on the first level of iD Software’s little gem, but hit many walls and never got very far due to various problems. With the release of CryEngine 3’s SDK, the mapper decided restart that project in Crysis 2 and released some new screenshots from it. Cleric is currently recreating the first level, but there is a possibility for more Quake maps. Enjoy! Remember those mind-blowing carage shots of a Crysis 2 mod that were featured in one of our Weekly CryEngine 3 Galleries? No? Shame on you. Modder Tiesto is developing one of the best SP total conversions of Crysis 2 and has released its beta version. To put it simple; this is the best total conversion of Crysis 2. Hell, it even puts Crysis 2 itself to shame. According to the modder, this is only a beta, thus it does not contain many missions. In fact, the beta features only the Continuum map (all the other maps will be in the final release). Continue reading Crysis 2 SP Continuum Mod Beta Released; Behold the power of CryEngine 3→

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; you can’t comprehend the flexibility of Crytek’s latest game engine, CryEngine 3. Modders around the world are experimenting with it – thanks to the free SDK that was released by Crytek – and one of them is Gkan who is creating a soccer game. Now there are a lot of complex issues (regarding its collision system) but from what we’ve seen so far, this is how the next-generation version of Fifa would actually look like. It’s really impressive and get this; it’s from one man and not from a whole team, dedicated to it. Simply, amazing. Moreover, we bring you today some new screenshots from the_grim,iSqueezee, blackhorizon, neo83_gr, Cinoshe, and DURLI. Enjoy!
