CryEngine 3 never ceases to amaze us. Crytek has just released the latest 3.3.9 version of their SDK and as you’d expect, some modders decided to experiment with it. Be advised though: lights are not rendered into the cubemaps with this new version of CryEngine 3’s SDK and both supersampling & customres are not working. Hopefully Crytek will release a hotfix in the coming days. Now this is why we love modders. Modder ‘theonebutcher’ has been working for a little while on a corridor space map that looks very similar to the ones found in Doom 3. This map comes with custom assets and the level of detail is simply astonishing. This map could very well be a glimpse of how Doom 3 (or even the upcoming new Doom game) would look like in CryEngine 3. CryEngine 3 is an amazing engine with so much potential and we really hope that more developers will license and put it into good use. Enjoy! This week, Crysis 2 modders have been experimenting with various TOD’s and as we can see below, they came up with some interesting shots. One of them looks simply amazing and that’s from modder chicken. Crysis has never looked as good as this and proves the difference that a polished TOD can make. Each and every week, we are bringing you shots from mods that are under development for Crysis 2. And even though Crysis 2 did not show off CryEngine 3’s capabilities, these upcoming mods prove that Crytek’s engine is ideal for a variety of games. Seriously now, more developers should license this engine and we were delighted to find out, earlier this week, that Warhorse Studios’ upcoming game would be powered by it. Modder ‘maikel’ has released a new CryEngine 3 video that shows off what ‘natural lighting’ would look like in a video-game. The modder has been looking at how light works in the real world and how this can be translated in a game engine and his research is designed to answer: a) How does direct light, indirect light and atmospheric effects work in the real world and b) How can this be translated into a game engine. Mapper ‘Cleric’ has released some new screenshots from his Quake map that is under development for Crysis 2. This is basically a re-imagining of Quake’s first level and uses some of the assets found in iD Software’s classic shooter, like the ammo crates and the button switches. Okay, now that was unexpected. Mapper Chrome235 has revealed a screenshot that showcases how Mordor and LOTR would look like in CryEngine 3. This is basically an artwork – or a wallpaper – that borrows some assets from the movies. In other words, this is not a custom map. Still, it’s pretty amazing and makes us wish for a LOTR game, powered by Crytek’s engine.
