Dark Souls 2 PC Performance Analysis

Dark Souls 2 has just been released on the PC and it’s time to see whether or not FromSoftware has learned from its mistakes. Before starting, let’s get one thing straight; no. The lighting system that wowed everyone when Dark Souls 2 was initially introduced is nowhere to be found. Yeap, FromSoftware removed that lighting system from the PC version too, something that does not surprise us. While FromSoftware claimed that the PC version was the lead platform for Dark Souls 2, it is obvious that this was a lie. If the PC version was the lead platform then there was no reason to remove it. After all, the lighting system was removed from console versions because the game could not run acceptably on them, something that is not an issue at all on the PC. Well, deep inside we all knew that both From Software and Namco Bandai would give us the dumbest PR statements about Dark Souls 2’s “downgrade-ation”. Namco Bandai Will Make An Announcement About Dark Souls 2’s ‘Downgrade-ation’ Next Week

There is no doubt – at this point – that the retail version of Dark Souls 2 looks awful and lacks the lighting system that was advertised when the game was original advertised. Dark Souls 2 Massively Downgraded – New Video Comparison Between Retail & April 2013 Builds

I’m pretty sure you’ve all heard the recent reports of Dark Souls 2’s ‘downgradeation’. Well, it appears that those reports were legit after all. YouTube’s member ‘HyperBitHero’ has posted a video that compares the final build with the April 2013 build. As we can clearly see, the final build feels flat and washed out compared to the earlier build. Moreover, the use of specular maps has been decreased for no apparent reason. The PC version of Dark Souls 2 is planned for an April release, so it will be interesting to see whether that version will be able to match the April 2013 build. Enjoy!
