Well, you gotta love modders. DayZ was one of the best mods for ArmA 2, and we cannot wait for its standalone version. However, some people decided to port this stunning mod to Arma 3 and name it Zoombies. Before criticizing them, know that they pay full respect to DayZ and they are not trying to gain popularity over Rocket’s work. As the team stated, this is just an Arma 3 port of DayZ and nothing more. Continue reading Get The Most Out Of Arma 3 – Zoombies is an Arma 3 port of DayZ→

Dean “Rocket” Hall has released a new devblog for the standalone version of DayZ, showcasing 20 minutes of gameplay footage. DayZ Standalone features better visuals than its mod counterpart, though we can see all known ‘issues’ that are present in Bohemia’s ArmA titles – like low-res blurry textures at the distance and flickering objects. Naturally, some of them will be ironed while other won’t be fixed or tweaked (a ‘noisy’ texture would be ideal for the distant textures. After all, that was the technique that a lot of Skyrim modders followed in order to provide a better IQ). Still, DayZ is not popular for its visuals, but for its atmosphere and gameplay mechanics. And thankfully, this standalone version looks even better than its mod version. DayZ Standalone is planned for release later this year. Enjoy! Last week, we presented you some new screenshots from the standalone version of DayZ. Well, time now to see it in motion. Rocket and Matt provided a quick overview of some new elements of the DayZ Standalone project, including the new engine support for clothing, the revised loot spawning mechanics, and some new areas on the map. In all seriousness, this seems really close to the DayZ mod (in terms of visuals), so let’s hope that they’ll overhaul them in the coming months. Not that it is a bad thing, but then again we’d love to see a DayZ 2.0 and not a DayZ 1.3. Enjoy! Continue reading DayZ Standalone Gets First Footage→

2012 was a great year for PC games mods. Not only did we get DayZ and Black Mesa, but we also enjoyed Brutal Doom, Cry of Fear as well as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II and Fallout: New Vegas with their contents that were cut off from their vanilla versions. Oh, and Skyrim got one hell of mods. And let’s not forget mods such as Doom: The Mercenaries that brings together the past (2D sprites) with the present (latest versions of Resident Evil).
