We seriously don’t know whether we should be happy that there are dedicated modders, willing to go the extra mile and fix From Software’s action RPG, or not. But this is a good thing, so let’s be positive on that, shall we? Following Durante’s fix for the game’s resolution, modder ‘Nwks’ has released a 60fps mod for Dark Souls PC. As its title suggests, this mod unlocks the game’s framerate and is currently in alpha phase. Continue reading Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition PC – 60FPS Unlocker Released – Alpha Version→
Last week we took a look at one of the best console ports of 2012, Square Enix’s Sleeping Dogs. Well, today we are bringing you the worst console port of this year, that is no other than Namco’s Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition. It’s really ironic criticizing a game that we got out of nowhere, however Dark Souls PC seems like a quick cash-in and nothing more. It’s true that From Software is not familiar with the PC platform but there is no excuse for what they’re currently offering us. Even if they’re not familiar with our platform, it’s not that hard to remove some console features that were put on purpose. And if you believe that From Software was able to develop a game from scratch and could not find the global values of the on-screen button indicators or the resolution lock mechanism, then you are a fool. PC gamers, here is some PC gameplay footage from Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition. YouTube’s member ‘shadowzack’ has uploaded the first 7 minutes of it, and what’s interesting here is that the user has uploaded videos for both the vanilla and the modded version of Dark Souls. In other words, you can see in motion the huge difference between From Software’s initial offering (first video) and Durante’s modded version (second video). Enjoy! Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition will be unlocked in a couple of hours and we bet that most of you are really disappointed with the game’s resolution lock. Well, NeoGAF user ‘Durante‘ decided to take a look at this game and after 23 minutes, the modder figured out a way to unlock the game’s internal resolution. We should also note that the modder did not have any access to the game’s source code. So kudos to him and boohoo to From Software for not fixing something that would take them a couple of hours. Get ready for some bad news Dark Souls fans. Yes, the game is coming to the PC and that’s what most of us have been asking all this time. And although some of you misunderstood From Software’s statement about the ‘720p resolution’ restriction, we are happy to report that the game supports resolutions up to 1080p. As we said back when that information got out, From Software was obviously talking about the game’s assets resolution and nothing more. This is definitely something new, as there were big concerns this entire time about From Software’s knowledge of the PC hardware and whether they could actually port the game or not.
