Our reader ‘Jonathan Gustafsson’ has released a new video, showing Grand Theft Auto III’s Liberty City map being converted to Grand Theft Auto V. As with the GTA: San Andreas map, this is a very early beta version of the map. This map looks flat, has low resolution textures, as well as an underwhelming LOD system. It has been more than a decade since GTA was first released but did you know that Grand Theft Auto was originally planned to be called “Race N Chase” and it was almost cancelled? Also what is up with the controversy this series has faced over the years? When the series was first started in 1997, there would’ve been a few who would’ve expected it to become a breakthrough and inspiration to modern gaming but seeing where it stands today is absolutely amazing. GTA 3 fans, here is something special for you today. GTA III Rage Classic Team has released some new screenshots and videos for their upcoming total conversion mod for GTA IV, called Grand Theft Auto III Rage Classic. As the title suggests, this is a mod that brings the world and characters of GTA III to GTA IV. There is no release date yet, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted. Enjoy the new media after the jump! A lot of GTA fans believe that the third part (and first full 3D game of the series) was the best. Naturally, most of them wanted to experience it with better graphics and thankfully there are currently two projects that aim to offer just that. The first one is called GTA III RAGE and has been in development since July 2011. The second one is a brand new project that may look similar to GTA III RAGE, but it’s a completely different approach from a different modder (and features a mix between Liberty City Stories and GTA III). This second mod has barely been started and the following video shows a part of the city of GTA III that has been converted to the RAGE engine. Okay, when a PS2 game gets released for the current iOS and Android devices, you finally realize how far the handheld hardware has come. Rockstar announced that their acclaimed third person sandbox game, Grand Theft Auto 3, will be released on both iOS and Android this Fall. To be more precise though, the game will be made available for specific, more powerful smartphone and tablet devices, including iPad 2, iPhone 4S, the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
