DOOM – Next update will bring new Photo Mode, Classic DOOM weapon placement & Snapmap features

Bethesda has announced some of the key features that will be included in the next update for DOOM. According to the publisher, DOOM’s next update will include several improvements and will introduce a new Photo Mode, as well as a Classic DOOM weapon placement/view model option. DOOM surpasses 500K sales on the PC

It appears that DOOM is doing well on the PC as id Software’s title has sold 500K units so far. This information comes from Steamspy; a Steam stats service based on Web API provided by Valve. Steamspy’s numbers are slightly delayed – if Total War: WARHAMMER’s stats are anything to go by – so we can safely assume that DOOM did sell 500K units on the PC. DOOM fan tries to recreate a 100K Revenants map, runs immediately into SnapMap limitations

It appears that while DOOM’s SnapMap is kind of cool, it’s not as powerful or as friendly to modders, and comes with a lot of limitations. As we can see below, YouTube’s ‘MarphitimusBlackimus’ has tried to recreate a map with 100K Revenants, and ran immediately into SnapMap’s limitations. MarphitimusBlackimus was unable to create such a map, as he was limited to 64 Revenants (and 21 empty rooms). DOOM – PC Performance Analysis

DOOM is a highly anticipated game as it’s the first title that is being powered by the new id Tech 6 Engine. id Tech 6 is an OpenGL/Vulkan based game engine developed by id Software, and we were really looking forward to it. After all, this is the engine that other future Bethesda games will be using, so we were curious whether it would be plagued by the same issues that affected its previous iteration, the id Tech 5.
