It appears that eight new security vulnerabilities have surfaced. German website Heise reports that these new vulnerabilities are called Spectre Next Generation – or Spectre NG – and affect mostly Intel’s CPUs (though they may also affect some ARM CPUs). Microsoft details performance impact of Spectre and Meltdown fixes on a variety of PC configurations
Microsoft is currently deploying the Spectre and Meltdown fixes via its Windows Update app and has just detailed the performance impact users can expect from them. Intel will release updates for both Spectre and Meltdown for 90% of its processors by the end of next week
Intel has issued a press release, claiming that it will release updates for more than 90 percent of its processor products introduced within the past five years. Old-gen and current-gen consoles, AMD CPUs and smartphones are also vulnerable to the Spectre threat
Yesterday, a lot of AMD fans were celebrating as it was discovered that Intel’s CPUs were affected by a fundamental design flaw (codenamed ‘Meltdown‘). And while this issue has been addressed by Microsoft and Intel, another design flaw has surfaced that affects all CPUs.
