DirectX 11.2 Revealed – Available Only On Windows 8.1 & Xbox One [UPDATE]

Well, we all saw that coming. In an attempt to promote its latest OS, Microsoft has officially revealed the new version of its DX API. And as you may have guessed, it is coming exclusively on Windows 8.1 and Xbox One. DirectX 11.2 was presented at its Build Conference, and you can find the keynotes video below. Perhaps the best feature of DX11.2, Tiled Resources, is demoed at around the first one hour mark. With Tiled Resources, Direct3D 11.2 introduces support for hardware virtual resources, allowing the creation of massive textures using minimal memory, and permitting improved bandwidth efficiency. Let’s see now how PC gamers and developers will respond to Microsoft’s move, and whether the former will be forced to upgrade their systems – yet again – for this DX exclusivity! And E3 is about to begin everyone. We expect to see some truly amazing things today (yes yes, even PC gamers should be excited) so make sure to watch some – if not all of them. Naturally, we’ll be bringing you news and videos from a lot of titles during these days, however you can use this post to discuss about Microsoft’s, Sony’s, EA’s and Ubisoft’s conferences. Halo was the first game that made 3DFX realize that 32bit coloring would be essential for newer titles, and it was the game that most PC gamers were looking forward to. Halo: Spartan Assault Coming Exclusively To Windows 8, First Screenshots & Debut Trailer

Well, we all saw that coming, didn’t we? In order to promote Windows 8, Microsoft announced Halo: Spartan Assault. Developed by Vanguard Games in conjunction with 343 Industries, this isn’t the Halo game you’ve been waiting for. No, this isn’t a first person shooter with next-gen visuals. Instead, 343 and Microsoft decided to offer us a top-down shooter. This game is said to be a Windows 8 title, and will be released on both PC and Windows Phone. Now this is a nice surprise. Even though Halo 3 has not been confirmed for the PC – and may not see the light of day anytime soon – Microsoft will be publishing a Halo-based game on the PC. Spotted by NeoGAF, this new game will be called Bootcamp and is said to be a TPS game based on ‘Halo’ universe where player complete various types of missions. It’s really fascinating watching Halo 3 PC going back and forth. Will it hit the PC or not? Bungie’s game appeared in Steam’s registry a while back, and a lot of PC gamers got excited. Microsoft was quick to react and stated that they had no plans for a PC port of Halo 3. PC gamers got disappointed. Then, Halo 3 was spotted in AMD’s GPU drivers. Age of Empires 2: HD Edition Gets A Beta Patch That Offers Up To 500% Performance Improvements

A lot of players were disappointed with the performance of Age of Empires 2’s HD Edition. Thankfully, the development team has released a beta update that offers up to 50% performance improvements on low-end systems and up to 500% performance improvements on high-end systems. This improved build is currently available only on the “performance build” beta, meaning that you will have to opt for AoE2 HD’s beta patches/updates. You can view its complete changelog below.
