In a shocking turn of events, Notch revealed yesterday that it’s okay if people pirate Minecraft. As Minecraft’s developer tweeted yesterday, those who can’t afford to pay for Minecraft can go ahead and pirate it. Just wow. But what does this mean? Is Notch encouraging to pirate his game? Apparently not, as he explained later on that he does not exactly approve it, but thinks that ‘it’s a minor offense in the scale of things‘. Notch was also surprised with how the media responded to his views on piracy. Continue reading Notch further explains why he does not care about Minecraft’s piracy→
Now this is simply awesome. YouTube’s user ‘avemagnadude’ recreated the entire Skyrim trailer in Minecraft. This mash up of the two games is incredible and took avemagnadude 2 whole months to create it. Everything is spot on, from the dragon to the game’s environments. This, this is art. There are no words to describe it so go ahead and watch it. Video – courtesy of Machinima – after the jump. I bet most PC gamers have already played Notch’s little gem, but who cares. Ladies and gentlemen, Minecraft has just been officially released. No more betas, no more testing. Minecraft 1.0 is out. The game is currently priced at $28.95 and can be purchased from its official site. We should note though that the site is down right now for maintenance purposes. YouTube user Vareide uploaded an amazing mashup between Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto V. In other words, this is a recreation of Grand Theft Auto V’s trailer with Minecraft. It looks great and shows what the community can achieve. We’ve seen in the past some other vs between other games and Minecraft – like the one with Battlefield 3 – but this one is perhaps the best among them. Enjoy it after the jump. So you think that Minecraft looks dated with its 2D pixel-ish graphics, right? Well, here is a nice high-res texture pack to update the game’s visuals. Modder Ovo released his latest Rustic Texture Pack that is compatible with both Minecraft 1.9 and 1.8.1. This texture pack enhances the blocks in Minecraft to make them look more real than the original ones, by adding more shadow and glowing effects. Minecraft proves that a great indie game with a nice marketing campaign can actually sell quite well on a dead platform. Notch’s little gem has finally surpassed 4 million sold copies, a number that a lot of triple-A games would like to achieve on the PC. To be more accurate, Minecraft currently has 16,051,591 registered users, of which 4,000,043 (24.92%) have bought the game. Continue reading Minecraft surpasses 4 million sales→
I’m seriously amazed by what Minecraft’s community can recreate/reproduce these days. Yesterday, we posted MineWars, a mashup between Minecraft and Star Wars – in case you haven’t seen it yet, please do so. It’s really amazing – and here comes today a cross-over between Battlefield 3 and Minecraft. So, we’ll call it MineField and let me tell you that I’d actually pay to play such mods guys. And I bet that I’m not the only one willing to. Developers, take notes; this is one of the reasons we love mods and why PC games should feature them. Now this is how Minecraft should look like and play guys. Yes, Notch’s little gem is awesome but let’s be honest, an engine overhaul is needed and by just watching this fanmade machinima movie, I can only dream that our beloved indie developer will license Crytek’s CryEngine 3 to use it in a sequel, an expansion, an update or whatever. YouTube user, ultek, has been working on this machinima movie for 3-4 months and used 3dStudioMax, AdobePremiere, CryEngine and AfterEffects to create it.
