Ray-tracing in games requires 100X more powerful GPUs, photorealistic virtual reality requires 40X
As we’ve said numerous times, we believe that ray-tracing is the future of lighting in video-games. While there have been some attempts in various tech demos to implement a fully ray-tracing rendering system, we haven’t seen any triple-A game featuring it. And from the looks of it, we won’t see such a thing anytime soon. According to NVIDIA’s president in Brasil, Richard Cameron, we need 100 times more powerful graphics cards to achieve this. It’s no secret that the Forza Motorsport 7 performance on NVIDIA’s graphics cards was a bit underwhelming on launch day. YouTube’s ‘AdoredTV’ has shared two interesting videos, highlighting the history of NVIDIA’s GeForce graphics cards. In these videos, AdoredTV has shared a graph detailing the performance improvement for NVIDIA’s GPUs per generation. And as we can see, the performance improvement has been significantly reduced. Final Fantasy XV at 4K is the GTX 1080Ti Killer
At this years Gamescom we learned that Final Fantasy XV will be coming to PC in early 2018, we also learned that it would be featuring 4K textures but even the GTX 1080Ti won’t be able to provide a smooth 60FPS at 4K.
