Obsidian Entertainment has confirmed that its upcoming sci-fi RPG, The Outer Worlds, will be using Unreal Engine 4. Other than that, the team did not reveal any new tech details but I’m pretty sure that gamers will be delighted that the team is using an engine that has been used by numerous games that do not have major performance issues. Obsidian will reveal its new game next week at the Video Games Award 2018, won’t feature micro-transactions

Geoff Keighley has revealed that Obsidian will reveal its brand new sci-fi RPG at the Video Games Award 2018 next week. Although we don’t know much about it, we do know that it will be in third-person and will be published by Private Division (meaning that it should theoretically be a multi-platform title). Obsidian’s Roby Atadero on video-game bugs: “Generally you’re going to have a lot of bugs.”

During his presentation at the University of California Riverside, Roby Atadero – Senior Programmer at Obsidian – shared some really interesting details about the bugs that players encounter in most modern-day games. Atadero basically confirmed what most of us already know by now; that most developers do not have enough time to address the majority of bugs as publisher want to meet their deadlines. Microsoft has acquired Obsidian Entertainment and inXile Entertainment

And it appears that the rumours were true after all. Microsoft has just announced that it has acquired both Obsidian Entertainment and inXile Entertainment. These two PC studios are now part of Microsoft’s first party studios so it will be interesting to see what games they’ll be developing for Microsoft’s platforms.
