It appears that Bethesda and id Software are preparing a new DLC or add-on for RAGE, as the publisher has registered Rage: The Scorchers with PEGI for PS3, X360 and PC. According to the registration, Rage: The Scorchers will allow players to interact with other players online and will contain extreme violence and strong language. We expect Bethesda to announce this DLC/add-on pretty soon, as they hinted about it back in March. Continue reading Incoming RAGE DLC/Add-on and Mod Tools→
Ah, the good old days of Quake 3. Those frantic deathmatches can’t be easily forgotten and a lot of gamers are currently enjoying them via Quake Live. However, it appears that some people wish for a next generation version of iD’s best multiplayer game. Well, we got some bad news as there won’t going to be one anytime soon. When a fan asked for a new Quake 3 game, John Carmack said that it would not happen. The reason behind it is quite simple. According to Carmack, QuakeArena does not translate well to game controllers – due to its fast movements – and is not newbie friendly for a console for a console triple-A title. Therefore, there are no plans for resurrecting or developing a remake of it for current generation systems. With the recent news of an upcoming RAGE surprise, a lot of PC gamers started wondering whether they’d be getting that rumored high resolution texture pack or not. Well, it appears that there wasn’t any such texture pack to begin with, as John Carmack has revealed that most of the source art isn’t at higher resolution, therefore there can’t be a high-resolution texture pack for it. I seriously don’t know if you’ll get excited about it, but John Carmack has confirmed that a 64bit executable version of RAGE will be released. Carmack didn’t give any specific details about the gains that it could possibly introduce but when a fan asked whether this 64bit version was cancelled or not, Carmack responded and reassured him that it will be released as it’s now in the Q&A phase.
“it is still in QA, but it is definitely going to be released.”
In other news, iD Software revealed a while ago that they have not forgotten about all those promises for a PC Level Editor and Mod Tools. As the company tweeted a couple of weeks ago, they’ll be sharing new information soon. Well, it’s been two weeks since then and we haven’t heard anything from them.
Here is hoping that iD Software won’t use Valve’s ‘time schedule’ for their announcements.
At long last, the latest patch for RAGE is now available and comes with that promised upsample with adaptive sharpening filter. Moreover, this patch adds some new features and addresses various compatibility and performance issues. As always, the update will be auto-downloaded next time you start the Steam client and you can view its complete changelog after the jump. Continue reading Rage 1.2 Patch is now live→
Better late than never I guess. AMD’s Catalyst Creator hinted today to RAGE’s upcoming patch that will most probably be released alongside the game’s level editor at the end of this month. This new patch will include a texture sharpening option that was promised by John Carmack some months ago. Well, to be more precise, we assume that this feature will be included but since this is iD Software and Bethesda we are talking about.
